Farm fun in the sun!

Rain rain go away – we were so lucky the other day! Hi all. Jessie here, guest blogger from the how2heroes team. I was lucky enough to accompany the team on a little field trip to Wards Berry Farm in Sharon, MA on Monday. SO FUN! I’m a big fan of finding new local places to try and this farm was certainly full of surprises. To start off, we had a private tour of the crops grown there from Jim Ward, the farm’s proprietor. The veggies he grows range from zucchini, beets, carrots, potatoes to pumpkins and watermelons. He also walked us through his first ever crop of Fava beans! Very delicious. Interestingly enough, they grow everything BUT apples. They also special in growing heritage varieties of veggies as well – meaning they haven’t been grown in the US for over 50 years!

We were accompanied on our trip by Chef Rich Garcia from Tastings Wine Bar and Bistro who used the veggies we picked up to create a few delicious dishes so keep your eyes peeled. Tastings is located at the newly renovated Patriot Place mall near Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA. And yes – the stadium was just as awesome as the food! Certainly a great place to check out this summer if you’re in the area. If you’re from the Boston area – certainly add both of the locations to your Stay-cation agendas.

One great vegetable that Chef Garcia picked up at the farm was a few different varieties of zucchini. Back at the restaurant, they whipped up a delicious Zucchini Primavera for us to try. Oh it was so good – tasted just like creamy pasta yet it was a pasta-free-zone! I’m definitely going to be trying this one. Keep an eye open for Chef Garcia’s Tuna Nicoise Salad video. Coming soon!
